Both the Truman Doctrine and the Cold War were major turning points in our history. The Truman Doctrine's creation was a major turning point because President Harry Truman changed how America deals with foreign conflict. He made America abandon isolationism and joined and supported the League of Nations. He made it a point that America would support any foreign democrat nation under totalitarian threat. This form of act and ideology has successfully remained for over 4 decades to the present in our nation. The Cold War is what put an end to the Soviet Union and their desire to spread communism. With the election of Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev. He made a quest to bring a new openness to the Soviet Union called the "Glasnost" which finally brought the U.S. and Soviet rivalry to end and gain trust between each other despite the many years of distrust creating peace between them.
